Big Enough

In 2017 three amazing women (one of them being my mother) passed from this Earth. I am humbled by the example of how they lived their lives - albeit each differently and yet with surprising similarities. They were committed to do good, to be kind and to make a difference. They weren't public figures or had lofty goals of saving the world. However I would say they each had a focus and purpose that was not unlike many of the people I know - people who work both in and out of the home. They had to make a living, feed a family and volunteered when needed. These women were trailblazers, courageous, kind, selfless and inspiring. They didn't look for fame or accolades - they just wanted to get "the job done". There are times when I think "is what I am up to" big enough...is there something else I could be doing with my life that would make a bigger difference to the world? In thinking about these women - how people talked about them and the difference they made, it seems to me that what they were "up to" was huge. They made a positive difference with each of the lives they touched. They were committed to responding to what was needed in the moment They were kind, helpful and caring. At the end of the day we might not know we made the world a better place, but if we aspire to being selfless and yet self-aware to know what we can do - to be gracious and grateful; to be helpful and caring; to listen and to act, chances are what we are " up to" will be big enough
