Getting Started Again

A few years ago I wrote a post about getting started - and here I am - I feel like I am getting my counselling practice started again. That is - in a real, solid way. As it happens I've been in practice for as long as I can remember, and most specifically since I became a Registered Clinical Counseloor. There is a quote I heard several years ago that I believe is true -

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now." Johann wolfgang von Goethe.

Commitment for me looks like having several people who I count on as my coaches; having an office where I will work - (check out www.eastvancouvercounselling.ca); getting my website Karrel Counselling updated (in progress), and registering for new professional development opportunities. It also means managing the internal voices that seem to rear their heads -" I'm not good enough, I don't know enough". If you are "starting again" - or starting for the first time - remember it is a process. Celebrate getting started and remeber the only thing to say to that nay sayer, is "thanks for sharing".
