The Courage to Change

I wrote about courage and commitment back in 2016 and it doesn't hurt to repeat that message.

As my colleague and mentor John Scherer used to say, - "there are two motivators for change - pain and possibility; and pain is the only one I trust". Basically what we know is that when we are in enough pain - we will make the commitment to change. The “pain” can be defined as the one area that is preventing you from having a more peaceful and stress free life. I recently heard that our purpose here on Earth is to be happy. I think it is to be content enough to be of service, to make the world a better place. When we are bogged down with stress and discontent, it is difficult to be of help to others.

Whatever the motivator, it takes tremendous courage to be willing to look at what is happening, and to identify the beliefs and behaviours that are part of the situation that stop you from having a more content and peaceful life.

It also takes:

[] Believing that a different reality is possible. [] Being willing to open up, to share thoughts and feelings [] Looking for and finding some you can trust to help you with the process of change [] Setting up a team of support – be they friends, family or colleagues.

[] Making changes in the way you see yourself and others.

It also takes a dose of self-love. This isn’t a time to blame yourself or anyone else – it is being honest about what is happening and committing to a process that will help you feel a greater sense of peace.
